Yeah, considering the varied opinions on this, the spelling may no longer work as intended.

The majority of people objecting have been trans women who seem to misunderstand the purpose or usage of the word.

I’m a trans woman. I never use an x, and I’ve never seen an individual use an x in referring to themselves. Likewise, I’ve never seen the x spelling used to signify trans women.

The spelling is used in events and venues, like, “this is an event for womxn” — and it means “we welcome women of ALL types, and TERFs can go f**k off” :-)
