I am of that generation.

And yes, many of us fought for change. But also, many, many, many didn’t. Some went to Vietnam. Some just spent the Seventies doing lines of coke. And yet some others bought into the system, and stopped marching for change, got minivans and started mowing the lawn, and voting for Reagan. Many supported Reagan as he vilified Black people, implemented the three-strikes rule, threw hundreds of thousands into prisons with his “war on drugs,” allowed gay people to die of AIDS while he turned a blind eye.
Some allowed Citizens United to happen.

Some just got old. Some stopped being hippies and became boomers. They became their parents.

I am of that generation. And I’m massively disappointed in it.

I sure as shit don’t “make a considerable amount of money”.
And I don’t pander to anyone.
I’m a broke Latina trans woman ranting from a small rented room.

As to the “vilify” remark: Maybe YOU are not the “never cared” type. Maybe YOU did good, fought the good fight. In which case I wasn’t writing to you. I was writing to whoever wrote that meme — and those who endorse it.

If the shoe fits, right?
And if it doesn’t, walk on by, baby. Walk on by.

But your comment about the “crutch of being mistreated” kinda tells on you. No, we don’t need the crutch of being beaten, murdered. We don’t need the crutch of people hating us for existing. We don’t need the crutch of state after state passing legislation to reduce our human rights. We don’t need the crutch of not being allowed to use the fucking bathroom.
