On Good and Evil

I just read a sophism about the existence of evil — it claimed there is no evil, that evil is just the absence of good, just like cold doesn’t exist, it’s just the absence of heat. Empty, pointless argument. Night is the absence of Day. AND, night exists as a condition.

Life is full of evil. Evil is at the heart of life. Hear me out.

God created an evil system

God created a system where complex life forms must rip apart other living life forms to nourish themselves.
God created a type of worm whose whole life cycle depends on burrowing itself in the eyes of children and rotting the eye from the inside.
God created heart disease and cancer.
God could've created a gentle universe. He didn't. He created a chaotic, violent one.

And don't tell me it was because of an apple. 🙄

The pointlessness of gods

A more sensible and more merciful explanation is that gods do not exist. That we’re part of an accidental, imperfect system born of random chemical events. Within that system, as community-driven great apes driven by empathy, we can choose to define "good" as something that heals, something that improves conditions, something that helps living things. And we can choose to define as evil…
