Hi Carey, I’ve been watching a 2018 video by The Atlantic that features you, and it’s led me here and to your writing. In me you have a trans advocate who’s also a friend. I don’t think of our views, journeys and conclusions as oppositional but complementary. Together we piece together a richer story about not only GD, but gender roles, the anxiety infused in us through body shame, sexual harassment and sexism, and our society’s current (and historical) deep dysfunction on the topic of gender, sexuality and identity. I’m put in mind of Leela Acorn. She didn’t talk about fixing herself. “Fix Society,” she told us.
In the video, you say “if you tell your story and it gets misused, and you tell it again and it gets misused again, then you just keep telling it until people hear the story.” I want you to know that I’m listening, and I hear your story.
And I’m glad you’re doing ok.
